MOSCOW, Oct 6: Hundreds of drones hit Moscow overnight, killing two men on the outskirts of the capital and injuring nine others, Russian authorities said Tuesday.
Overnight, "650 drones were launched toward the Moscow region", Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram, stressing that "most (were) destroyed by air defences at long range".
Moscow Region governor Andrei Vorobyov said 185 drones were "destroyed or neutralised" overnight over 16 municipalities in the region.

But he said on Telegram that the attack killed two men, aged 71 and 20, in two different locations on the outskirts of Moscow, while nine others were injured.
And 47 houses across seven municipalities had been damaged, as had four apartments in a residential building in the village of Lobanovo, he said.
According to the Russian state news agency TASS, the pummelling was the second largest drone attack in the past two years on the Russian capital and its surrounding region -- hundreds of kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
Operations at Moscow's four airports were meanwhile disrupted by the attack, with air traffic restrictions imposed multiple times during the night and morning, according to the Russian civil aviation agency Rosaviatsia.
Both Ukraine and Russia have stepped up long-range strikes in recent months on civilian and industrial targets, including energy, transport and port infrastructure, as well as ships in the Black Sea.
Russia, which launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has said it plans to increase strikes on infrastructure targets, including in Kyiv, as winter approaches.
