Nepal Boxing Association (NBA) awarded and felicitated boxer Maharjan, who won men´s 81 kg weight category bronze medal in Guangzhou. [break]
Maharjan received Rs 100,000 while his coach Prachanda Sharma was awarded with Rs 26,000. NBA felicitated the athlete and the coach with certificates and garland. Maharjan had defeated Thai boxer Kriangkai Sukkhum 4-0 in the quarterfinal of the Asiad but failed against Dinesh Kumar of India in semifinal.
NBA also awarded Puran Rai, who had defeated a boxer from East Timor to reach quarterfinal of the men´s 52 kg weight category in the Asiad. NBA awarded Rs 45,000 to Rai.
Likewise, NBA felicitated other four boxers, who had participated in the Asiad. Dinesh Shrestha (men´s 60 kg), Ratna Tamang (men´s 69 kg), Sanju Lama (women´s 51 kg) and Anuradha Lama (women´s 60 kg) had also participated in the Asiad but failed to gain any success.
Secretary at the Youth and Sports Ministry Sushil SJB Rana, NBA President Rabiraj Thapa, National Sports Council Member Lal Kumar Lama and Nepal Olympic Committee Member Chhimi Urgen Gurung handed over the awards to the athletes and the coach. NBA also felicitated boxing coach Kiran Karki and Boxing Team Manager for Asiad Rajiv Shrestha.

Meanwhile, Republican Sports Federation of Nepal also felicitated Maharjan and Sharma. Federation awarded Rs 50,000 to Maharjan while Sharma received Rs 15,000. UCPN (Maoist) leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Ganesh Thapa handed over the awards to Maharjan and Sharma.
Thapa announced that ANFA is also planning to award Maharjan in near future.
