KATHMANDU, July 1: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) is waiting for report from Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) on the sub-standard food sent by the WFP for distribution among the earthquake victims in Gorkha and other areas.

MoFA has asked Home Ministry to provide detailed report describing how sub-standard food was cleared for distribution. “We will be in a position to take further action only after we receive a detailed report from Home Ministry,” said MoFA Spokesman Tara Pokharel.

Although formal letter is yet to be sent to WFP, senior MoFA officials said they have already apprised visiting senior UN officials about the issue. WFP officials have maintained that the sub-standard rice was not sent deliberately and they are committed to providing quality rice to earthquake victims.

Home Ministry officials have asked MoFA to contact Gorkha CDO office directly to learn the facts.  Officials said the government will formally express its displeasure to the WFP officials about the sub-standard food and urge them to strengthen monitoring of their distribution process.
