KATHMANDU, Aug. 10: The monsoon remains active across the country, with heavy rainfall expected in several parts of Nepal, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD).
The monsoon low-pressure line is currently near its average position. At the same time, all parts of Koshi and Lumbini provinces and the hilly and mountainous areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces are generally cloudy, the Division said.
The Madhes Province and the Tarai areas of the Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim provinces are partly cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall is currently occurring at some places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Heavy rain likely in some parts of the country
The MFD has forecast generally cloudy conditions across the country this afternoon. Some mountainous areas are likely to receive moderate rain with thunder and lightning, along with snowfall. Many hilly areas are also expected to receive moderate rainfall.
Some parts of the Tarai in Koshi, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as the Tarai areas of Madhes, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, are likely to receive moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Heavy rainfall is likely at a few places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, the hilly areas of Karnali and the hilly and Tarai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, the Division said.
Generally cloudy conditions are expected across the country tonight as well. Some mountainous areas are likely to receive moderate rain with thunder and lightning and snowfall, while many hilly areas and the Tarai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces may receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Some parts of the Tarai in Madhes and Koshi provinces are also likely to receive moderate rainfall. Heavy rain is expected at some places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, the hilly areas of Karnali, and the hilly and Tarai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. One or two places could receive very heavy rainfall, according to the Division.
The MFD has urged residents in the affected areas to remain alert as heavy rainfall could increase the risk of debris flows, floods, landslides and soil erosion.
The adverse weather could also disrupt daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transport services, it said.
