KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ashika Tamang has criticized the government over the shortage of cooking gas, questioning whether voters gave the government a two-thirds majority to leave people hungry.
Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Friday, Tamang said people were being forced to go without food because of the shortage of LPG cylinders.
“Did the people give you a two-thirds majority so they could watch gas in shops and remain hungry?” she asked.

Tamang said she receives calls every day from people saying that gas is available at shops but shopkeepers refuse to sell it. “Isn’t this like saying there is gold in Lhasa but I have no ears to hear it? Has the mafia become more powerful than the government in this country?” she asked.
She challenged the government to tell people to collect firewood and cook rice if there really is no cooking gas available in the market.
Tamang also said simply changing ministers would not solve the problem.
“If ministers are going to be changed every month just over the gas shortage, eventually there will be a longer line of ministers than people waiting for gas,” she said.
