MPs demand clarification over e-passport printing issue

KATHMANDU, June 19: Members of the House of Representatives have expressed concern over recent news reports regarding the printing of e-passports.



At the beginning of today’s meeting of the Lower House, opposition MPs stood up in protest, prompting Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal to give time to Nepali Congress MP Khadka Bahadur Budha to speak.

On the occasion, MP Budha demanded clarification on reports regarding e-passport printing.


Rastriya Prajatantra Party MP Khushbu Oli also sought the government’s response on the e-passport printing issue.


Likewise, CPN (UML) MP Guru Prasad Baral demanded that the vice-chancellor selection process be made free from political influence and stressed that university autonomy should not be undermined.


Nepali Communist Party MP Ganesh Bahadur Bishwakarma protested Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s statement on the Nepal–India border.


Shram Sanskriti Party MP Harka Raj Rai complained that he was unable to review the Defence Ministry’s budget book. He also demanded that the government clarify media reports claiming that a Nepali citizen was held hostage in Patna, India, in the name of networking.
