KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Members of the National Assembly (NA) have underlined the need to preserve social harmony amid the current challenging situation.
Speaking during the special hour of the National Assembly meeting on Sunday, they urged the government to address farmers' concerns, create employment opportunities for youths within the country, maintain communal harmony, and implement effective measures to combat human trafficking.
Samjhana Devkota called for greater collaboration between the federal and local governments to ease communal tensions in Sunsari district of Koshi Province and across Madhesh Province. She urged the government to create jobs for youths and take proactive measures to strengthen social harmony.
Rajendra Laxmi Gaire expressed concern over the evolving forms of human trafficking, saying effective strategies are needed to combat the crime.
She said the lack of employment opportunities within the country has compelled many citizens, including women, to seek foreign employment, making them vulnerable to human trafficking networks. She urged the government to take special measures to address the situation.

She also called on the government to prioritize the long-standing issue of landless people and resolve it promptly.
During the special hour, lawmakers also urged the government to act in line with the people's trust and aspirations.
They said that since people look to the government for solutions to their problems, it should work accordingly.
Lawmakers expressing these views included Kiran Babu Shrestha of the Nepali Congress, Rukmini Koirala of the CPN-UML, and Shree Krishna Prasad Adhikari of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP).
Nepali Congress lawmaker Dharmendra Paswan emphasized that everyone should focus on achieving peace and prosperity through dialogue, reconciliation, and coordination.
NCP lawmaker Bhuwan Bahadur Sunuwar drew the government's attention to the demands of victims of usurious moneylending, who continue to stage protests at Maitighar Mandala.
CPN-UML lawmaker Rekha Kumari Jha urged the government to strengthen measures to control smuggling and criminal activities taking advantage of the Nepal-India open border.
Meanwhile, members of the upper house also drew the government's attention to various pressing contemporary issues, including rising prices of essential commodities, the shortage of cooking gas, ongoing discrimination against the Dalit community, border disputes, and public health concerns.
Speaking during the zero hour of the National Assembly meeting, Krishna Bahadur Rokaya said citizens have been affected by soaring market prices, while Bishnu Kumari Sapkota urged the government to take immediate measures to curb inflation.
Shree Krishna Prasad Adhikari expressed concern over the shortage of cooking gas, rising inflation, and the public health risks posed by pesticide-contaminated food.
Padam Bahadur Pariyar said caste-based discrimination against Dalits has yet to end, while Pooja Chaudhary urged the government to resolve border issues in Susta, Nawalparasi West, through diplomatic channels.
