KATHMANDU, March 13: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has assured that the Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) won´t stop the supply of 80 MW of electricity to Nepal anytime soon.

"We had outstanding dues of around IRs 320 million and have already paid IRs 60 million after they wrote to us about the clearance of dues," Badri Nath Rokka, head of NEA´s Corporate Finance Department, said. [break]

The BSEB had threatened to stop the supply if NEA failed to pay the outstanding dues soon. Rokka said NEA cannot clear all the dues on its own and said it has sought a loan of Rs 1.5 billion from the government.

The NEA statement follows fears that the ongoing load-shedding could go up to 18 hours a day if the BSEB stops the supply.
