KATHMANDU, Oct 6: The government is in regular talks with China to resume operations at the Tatopani border crossing, Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a meeting of the Parliamentary Special Committee on the Impact of Climate Change in the Himalayas, Climate Justice and the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli Disaster at Singha Durbar, Lamsal said Nepal has already completed the necessary work to bring the crossing back into operation.
“Nepal has no problems on our side at Tatopani. We have already restored the road and are ready to operate the crossing. We are in regular communication with the Chinese side, with discussions taking place almost daily,” Lamsal said.

He said the government is also working to restore roads and other infrastructure affected by disasters to facilitate the reopening of border crossings.
According to Lamsal, however, the Chinese side has not yet given the green light to resume operations at Tatopani. He said China has shown some reluctance to open border crossings during periods of floods and other disasters.
“They are not ready yet. Our dialogue is continuing. They have not given the green signal to operate the crossing during the disaster situation,” he said. “We are making efforts, and I believe we will be able to reopen it soon.”
Lamsal also said the government is working on a plan to restore the Rasuwagadhi border crossing, another major trade route between Nepal and China.
