KATHMANDU, Oct 6: The Nepali delegation attending the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tanzania held a meeting with a Chinese delegation on the sidelines of the event on Monday.
The Nepali delegation is led by Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal.
The Assembly is being held in Arusha from October 5 to 9.
The meeting focused on further strengthening the warm, cordial and friendly relations between Nepal and China, as well as bilateral parliamentary ties.
Nepali and Chinese parliamentary delegations meet in Geneva
According to the Speaker’s Secretariat, Aryal said Nepal-China relations are based on close friendship, good neighborliness, mutual respect and the Panchsheel principles of peaceful coexistence.
He reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to the One China policy and said Nepal would not allow its territory to be used for any anti-China activities.
Aryal expressed gratitude for China’s support in helping Nepal transform from a landlocked country into a land-linked country. He also stressed the need to make development cooperation between the two countries more effective, according to the secretariat.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives and property caused by the recent floods and landslides in Rasuwa, Aryal extended condolences to the families of Chinese citizens who remain missing in the disaster.
He thanked the Chinese government for providing emergency financial assistance, humanitarian aid, and search and rescue support following the disaster.
China provided equipment, technical expertise and other assistance, including support for tunnel rescue operations, forensic testing and DNA identification, as part of the disaster response.
Aryal expressed confidence that the parliamentary friendship group established between the two countries and the inter-parliamentary cooperation agreement between Nepal’s House of Representatives and China’s National People’s Congress would further strengthen parliamentary exchanges and mutual understanding, according to the secretariat.
