KATHMANDU, Sept 24: Nepal Police has restricted night-time vehicle movement on several major highways in view of forecasts of heavy rainfall from Sept 25 to 27.
According to a notice issued by the Police Headquarters, the restrictions apply to the Prithvi Highway and several other major roads.
Vehicles travelling along the Prithvi Highway will be barred from operating between 8 pm and 5 am from Thursday.
Heavy rain blocks major highways across Nepal
On the Siddhicharan Highway, all night-time movement of vehicles and pedestrians, except for essential services, has been prohibited from 6 pm to 6 am until Sept 28 due to ongoing monsoon conditions.
Similarly, night-time vehicle movement on the Kanti Highway and the Bhainse-Bhimphedi-Deurali-Kulekhani road in Makwanpur has been completely halted from 7 pm.
The BP Highway will remain closed to vehicles from 5 pm to 5 am.
Police have also restricted vehicle movement along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section from 8 pm Thursday to 5 am Friday.
The restrictions aim to reduce risks associated with heavy rainfall, floods and landslides.
