The NTTPI said it was seriously concerned that the civilian was killed allegedly due to the excessive use of force by the state and condemned the disproportionate use of force by security agencies. It urged the government to conduct a fair, independent and judicial investigation into the incident and ensure appropriate medical treatment, relief and compensation for the victims.

The NTTPI also appealed to all sides to exercise restraint, patience and tolerance and refrain from violence. Differences and grievances in a democratic society, it said, should be addressed through dialogue, negotiation and legal processes.

Expressing concern over growing social tensions fueled by violent incidents and acts such as self-immolation reported in various parts of the country in recent days, the NTTPI urged the government to prioritize the rule of law, respect for human rights and the safety of citizens.

It called on the government to exercise maximum restraint and use only the minimum force necessary to maintain peace and security. It also urged authorities to assess potential tensions in a timely manner, create an environment conducive to resolving disputes through dialogue and ensure full respect for human rights.

The NTTPI further appealed to political parties, civil society, the media and other stakeholders to play a responsible role in preventing further escalation of tensions and contribute to strengthening peace, harmony and national unity.
