KATHMANDU, Aug 31: Upon completing his MBA from Apex College, Kathmandu, Shrabal Tripathi landed at NMB Bank during the college placement. After three years today, 29-year-old Tripathi is still working there as the Corporate Relationship Manager. His first job being at Kist Bank (known as Prabhu Bank now) while pursuing his undergraduate studies, he plans on working in the banking sector for long.

What is your job responsibility?

As a Corporate Relationship Manager, I bear the duty of fulfilling banking needs of new businesses. By assessing their need, we provide them with loan, help them with fund mobilization, and import and export. My job responsibility also includes making sure that our clients are happy and content with our services.

What do you love the most about your job?

If asked to picture a banking job, many would imagine a boring person inside the closed door yawning every now and then. Contrarily, my job isn't a monotonous one. Yes, there is paper work, but they aren't that bad. For example, we do a lot of financial and market analysis, and I find them challenging and fun. I also get to meet many interesting people in the process. There are also those opportune instances, when my job demands travelling to observe clients' progress, which is delightful.

What are some of the challenges you face?

One big challenge at office is to keep up with the customers' expectations. Many often, we have clients with high hopes on obtaining credit. But that may not always comply with the company's criteria or rules. We have a hard time then, saying no to them. It quite often leads to an estranged relationship.

On the other hand, having been married for three and a half years and blessed with a two-year-old daughter, I often find myself not being able to give her much time. While my wife and I are away at our respective jobs, she is under the care of my parents. Even though they are very supportive, we often wish we could spend more time with her. Unlike my wife, I reach home at around nine in the evening, and by then my daughter is often asleep. Saturday is the only day I get to spend with her.

What is your work mantra?

As taught in my banking school, "Customer care is our religion." That's my mantra.

What are your future plans?

Banking is my passion and I plan on working in this sector for long and perhaps retire from here, too. So I'm focused on seeking growth in the banking sector. However, if better opportunities come my way, I'm open to them, too.
