KATHMANDU, Sept 7: A total of 121 people remain trapped inside tunnels of various hydropower projects following the devastating Bhotekoshi floods of August 26, with only three rescued alive so far.
Presenting a working paper at a program organized by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) on Monday, Nepali Army Brigadier General Subash Jung Thapa said 919 people from 12 energy projects, including hydropower and solar projects, were reported missing in the disaster.

“Of the 121 people trapped inside tunnels, three have been rescued alive, while the bodies of four others have been recovered,” Thapa said.
According to the Nepali Army, the largest number of people trapped were in the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project tunnel, where 50 workers remain unaccounted for. Another 40 were trapped in the Upper Trishuli 3A tunnel. Seven people each were trapped in the Langtang Khola and Chilime hydropower projects, while five were trapped in the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project. The remaining victims were trapped in the Trishuli 3B tunnel.
Rescue operations are continuing at the affected project sites as authorities search for those still missing, the Army said.
