KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Government authorities have intensified oral cholera vaccination (OCV) in flood-affected regions.
The latest report released by the Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services on 'Regular Immunization Services in Flood-Affected Areas and Monitoring of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases' mentions that 59,732 people received vaccines in the flood-affected areas of Rasuwa and Nuwakot.
According to the report, 15,812 people in Rasuwa and 43,920 people in Nuwakot have been administered with the oral cholera vaccines.

The vaccination is being conducted in Gosainkunda, Uttargaya, Ama Chhodingmo and Kalika rural municipalities of Rasuwa district, and in Bidur, Belkotgadhi, Kispang and Tarakeshwar rural municipalities of Nuwakot district.
Meanwhile, authorities are administering the Titanus-Diptheria (TD) vaccines to health workers, rescuers and the injured people in the flood-affected regions. Eight hundred and twenty-one persons in four local levels of Rasuwa and 113 people in Bidur Municipality of Nuwakot have received the TD vaccines.
As per the report, eight suspected cases of measles were reported after the floods and seven of them have tested negative while the result of one is awaited.
Dr. Abhiyan Gautam, head of the Child Health and Immunization Section under the Family Welfare Division, said that the regular vaccination service, disease monitoring and cholera control campaign are being conducted simultaneously.
According to him, preparations for the vaccination campaign against measles in Rasuwa and Nuwakot have started, while preparations are also underway for the 'OCV' vaccination campaign in the remaining affected wards of Dhading, Gorkha, and Tanahun.
