KABUL, Sept 16: A total of 617,244 Afghan refugees have returned to their homeland from neighboring Iran and Pakistan between March 21 and Sept. 9, 2026, a government official confirmed on Wednesday.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Afghan government, announced that 437,854 individuals crossed back into the country from Pakistan, while a further 179,390 were repatriated from Iran during the same period.

According to the official, all returnees received essential humanitarian assistance, including food rations, potable water, medical services and complimentary transportation to their respective provinces of origin.
