MYAGDI, June 20: In the current Fiscal Year (FY) 2025/26, Mustang has welcomed over 700,000 tourists, with a total of 705,754 individuals entering the region from July to May.
This figure matches the total number of visitors from the previous FY, indicating a steady interest in the area. The data, collected by the border police station in Mustang, highlights that 460,924 of these tourists were domestic, while 244,830 were international, arriving via 151,160 vehicles along the Beni-Jomsom road.
Visitors to Gorkha Museum On The Rise
Notably, May saw a significant influx of tourists, with 90,939 foreign and 40,838 local visitors recorded, utilizing 27,488 vehicles. The increase in Indian tourists is attributed to a dollar-saving policy by the Indian government, which has made travel to destinations like Mustang more appealing.
The region has become particularly popular among Nepali tourists during public holidays, leading to full bookings in accommodations along the Beni-Jomsom route.
The peak tourist season in Mustang typically occurs in May, coinciding with the start of summer. Police Inspector Santosh Basyal noted that approximately 80 percent of foreign visitors are from India, with many drawn to the sacred Muktinath Temple, a significant religious site in the area.
Tourists also visit Mustang for various other attractions and activities, contributing to its status as a favored destination.
