KATHMANDU, Oct 6: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee under the House of Representatives will begin hearings today for 13 ambassadorial nominees proposed for various countries.
The committee is scheduled to meet at 11:15 am, when it will open complaints filed against the nominees. The committee also plans to distribute the proposed ambassadors’ work plans during the meeting.
The committee decided on Asoj 8 to begin the parliamentary hearing process for the nominees.
Parliamentary hearing about proposed ambassador Pandey begins
Five complaints have been filed against the 13 nominees. The deadline for submitting complaints was extended because of public holidays, with five complaints received by Monday.
The committee had issued a public notice asking individuals to submit any information or complaints concerning the nominees, along with supporting evidence.
Based on a Cabinet decision on Asoj 2, Dr Nischal Nath Pandey has been nominated as ambassador to India, Dr Kalyan Raj Sharma to China, Chiranjeev Jung Thapa to the United States, Gaurav Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana to the United Kingdom and Saru Joshi to Germany.
Similarly, Suresh Kumar Karna has been nominated as ambassador to Israel, Prapti Sherchan to Spain, Jignan Kumar Thapa to Japan, Dr Padmakshi Rana to Oman, Chudamani Kharel to Malaysia, Prof Dr Sangam Shrestha to South Korea, Dr Manchala Kumari Jha to Sri Lanka and Giri Bahadur Sunar to Saudi Arabia.
The ambassadorial appointment process will move forward after the Parliamentary Hearing Committee reviews the complaints and completes hearings for the nominees.
The committee has not yet disclosed which nominees face the five complaints. The details are expected to become public after the complaints are opened at today’s meeting.
