Metallic paper, with its film laminated layers, creates a three-dimensional image. This makes photographs look better and brighter.[break]
Ashesh Rajbansh, director of Foto Hollywood in Kamaladi, says because of the enhancement of the color gamut, the photographs become more visually stimulating.
Foto Hollywood pioneered the metallic paper printing last year and is the only studio to provide the service in Kathmandu.
Metallic print is best for portraits and landscape image processing, says Rajbansh, adding that it boosts the picture quality, giving them “true to life color representation.” Of its distinct feature, he says, is also the life of the pictures. The shelf life of photos on metallic paper is 100 years, if displayed, and 200 years if stored.
In Nepal, Birendra Shah, managing director of Foto Hollywood, says that metallic paper printing is limited due to awareness in people and of prices.
According to him, “about 10% of professional photographers currently know about the service and use them.”
The price for printing on metallic paper is double than printing on regular matt or gloss paper. For a 12x18” photo, metallic paper print costs around Rs 600 whereas normal print costs Rs 300. Shah says Foto Hollywood is currently capable of printing images up to 12x36” on metallic paper, but can also deliver larger images on request.
