During the meeting held at the Prime Minister´s Office in Singha Durbar, General Chen handed over Chinese premier Wen Jiabao´s congratulatory message to Khanal. The Chinese premier in his message has expressed confidence that the new government-led by Khanal would be able to ensure peace, stability, and development in the country.
According to a press statement issued by the prime minister´s office, General Chen expressed delight at the steadily developing relations between the two countries and said that economically strong and politically stable Nepal is crucial not only for the stability of Asia Pacific region but for the entire world.
On the occasion, Khanal said Nepal feels proud to see the immense progress China had made in the past 30 years. “China´s emergence as a prosperous power not only helps establish peace and stability in the region but also in the entire world,” the statement quoted the prime minister as saying.
The prime minister also thanked China for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide assistance worth RMB 130 billion to the Nepal Army on Wednesday.
Chen also held separate meetings with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Defense Minister Bishnu Paudel.
During his meeting with Defense Minister Paudel, General Chen had expressed readiness on the part of Chinese army to extend additional support to Nepal Army.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Defense Secretary Nabin Ghimire said the assistance pledged to Nepal Army was made from the regular budget allocated to the PLA. “We want to see full implementation of the agreement,” he quoted General Chen as saying at the meeting that lasted for about 45 minutes.
Defense Minister Paudel had also assured general Bingde that Nepal stands committed to one-China policy and would not allow any anti-china activities in Nepali soil.
Sources said the Chinese military delegation had also held a meeting with Home Secretary Dr Gobinda Kusum and chiefs of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department in the afternoon.
