BIRGUNJ, Sept 6: Parsa Police detained Police Inspector Pradeep Poudel, chief of the Area Police Office in Pokhariya, from the Golden Figure Casino operated at Clark Resort in Gandak, Birgunj, on Saturday night.
According to Parsa Police Chief Pawan Bhattarai, eight people, including Poudel and Jaswant Yadav, chairperson of Sakhuwa Prasauni Rural Municipality, were detained from the casino.

Police said Yadav had arrived at the casino in the rural municipality’s government Scorpio (Na 1 Jha 1687), while Police Inspector Poudel arrived in another person’s vehicle.
Four of those detained were casino employees, according to Parsa Police spokesperson DSP Chakrabahadur Malla.
Malla said the police have taken issue with an elected local representative using a government vehicle to visit the casino. He said an investigation was underway into how the rural municipality chairperson was allowed to enter the casino in a government vehicle and how four Nepali nationals—including Yadav, Poudel and two others—were found at the casino despite Nepali citizens being prohibited from gambling at casinos.
Yadav, Poudel and the other detainees have been kept in the custody of Parsa Police, according to police.
