KATHMANDU, March 4: Police questioned tiktoker and youtuber Ratan Karki for allegedly promoting election candidates on social media during the legally mandated silence period.
Although rumors circulated online claiming he had been arrested, police clarified that he was only called in for questioning and later released.
Silence period for vice-presidential election begins tonight
According to Chitwan District Police Office spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabindra Khanal, Karki had posted photos and videos of candidates from various political parties during the silence period, in violation of the election code of conduct. He was summoned to the police office, instructed to remove the content, and released after compliance.
Police confirmed that Karki is currently at his residence. He had recently returned to Nepal from Japan and had been posting election-related videos on TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.
