KATHMANDU, Sept 13: Total 18 schools from Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts received damages in the Bhotekoshi flash floods that occurred on August 26. Among these, 11 schools are destroyed, recording the loss of Rs 937 million.
The rapid damage and needs assessment (RDNA) report prepared by the National Planning Commission and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) showed such amount of damages incurred to schools. A total of 56 buildings of 18 schools were affected. As many as 152 rooms received partial damages and 156 rooms met destruction.
In Rasuwa, the schools damaged by the devastating floods were one from Gosaikunda Rural Municipality and three from Uttargaya Rural Municipality.
Floods and landslides inflict damages worth Rs 16.5 billion
Nine schools were damaged by the floods in Budur Municipality of Nuwakot. Galchhi Rural Municipality of Dhading suffered damages to three school buildings, while Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality from the same district suffered damages to a school.
A school from Siddhalek Rural Municipality from Dhading district also suffered loss with its four buildings damaged in the disaster.
For the reconstruction of the damaged schools, the government would require approximately Rs 4.23 billion.
