The four-day sessions were conducted in Wards 1, 9, 12, 14, 15 and 29 with financial support from the metropolis. The initiative targets all 32 wards of the city, with 25 participants from each ward, including a facilitator.

A review meeting of the first phase has been completed. Trainers also took part in an interaction session at the district chapter office, where they exchanged feedback on how the training was delivered across the six wards.

NRCS Kathmandu Chapter Chairperson Shyamkaji Dotel said both local residents and elected representatives participated actively. He said the program will be extended to all wards and described the training as effective.

Participants reported greater confidence and practical knowledge for treating minor injuries at home. Around 90 percent of participants were women. The next phase of training will begin on April 19 and continue until mid-June.

The program follows an agreement signed on March 18, 2023 between NRCS and Kathmandu Metropolitan City. After the agreement, the Red Cross held meetings among trainers and conducted refresher sessions. Experienced trainers were deployed to wards. Monitoring was carried out by the metropolis health department, ward chairpersons, ward members and Red Cross officials.

Participants are assessed on the first and final days of training. Those who perform well in the final evaluation receive awards as encouragement, while all successful participants are provided certificates. Kathmandu Metropolitan City Epidemic Prevention and Control Focal Person Rishi Bhusal said the metropolis remains committed to public health and continues to prioritize life-saving skills.

The program aims to strengthen community-level capacity in basic first aid so residents can respond effectively to accidents, injuries and other emergencies at an early stage.

A review session will be organized to assess completed trainings and plan future strategies. Media representatives attended the interaction, where trainers noted that female participation remained significantly higher than male participation.
