KATHMANDU, Aug 31: The government missed revenue target for Fiscal Year 2014/15 by Rs 17.60 billion, according to figures made public by Ministry of Finance on Monday.

Finance ministry officials said revenue collection was affected due to sluggish economic activities in the aftermath of the earthquake drop in import due to blockade of trade routes. The government mobilized Rs 405.84 billion in revenue in 2014/15 against the target of Rs 422.90 billion.

Revenue collection in 2014/15, however, was up by 13.73 percent compared to revenue mobilized in 2013/14.

Speaking at a revenue collection review program on Monday, Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat directed tax officials to make Value Added Tax (VAT) billing more effective and implement electronic cash machine for customs evaluation as well as focus on taxpayer education and effective use of tax systems based on transactions.
