KATHMANDU, June 14:The Central Election Commission of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has annulled the election process and results of its Kailali district convention, citing procedural violations.
Issuing a statement on Sunday, the party’s central election commission said the decision was taken after receiving complaints and evidence submitted by candidates and party members regarding alleged irregularities in the electoral process.
Houses joint session postponed citing 'procedural error'
The convention, held on June 8, had elected Kabindra Thakulla as district chairperson. He secured 335 votes, while his competitors Mahesh Kumar Chaudhary and Hari Regmi received 37 and 22 votes respectively.
However, the commission stated that the election process did not meet basic democratic standards, procedures, and criteria, and was conducted in violation of party statutes and guidelines.
The statement further noted that objections raised by party leaders and concerns over the legitimacy of the process led to a detailed review, which concluded that the election had fundamental procedural flaws.
