KATHMANDU, May 5: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ganesh Parajuli on Monday questioned the government over the delay in arresting GB Rai, chairperson of Gorkha Media Network, who has been accused in a high-profile cooperative fraud case.
Speaking in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Monday, lawmaker Parajuli expressed dissatisfaction that even after 10 months in power, the government has failed to bring Rai to justice. He alleged that the government is hesitant to act because members of the ruling party might also be implicated.
Arrest warrant issued against NCP lawmaker
"Your party has been leading the government for 10 months now. When will GB Rai be arrested and brought back to Nepal?" Parajuli asked, “Reports suggest that out of Rs 16 billion involved, Rai has admitted to handling Rs 7 billion and promised to return it. But the question remains, who are the other beneficiaries of the remaining Rs 9 billion? Is that why he hasn't been arrested?"
Parajuli reminded the HoR that RSP has consistently raised the issue of cooperative victims and had even suggested to the government last year that the victims’ money should be refunded. "RSP hasn’t just voiced concerns, we formally advised the government to return the victims’ money last year," he said.
