Six-member probe committee over shooting at Basnet

KATHMANDU, Feb 10: Police on Tuesday formed a six-member committee headed by Senior Superintendent of Police Birendra Babu Shrestha to investigate into the shooting at prime minister´s personal secretary Shakti Bahadur Basnet.



SSP Shrestha is the chief of Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Hanumandhoka.



According to a police source, the team includes chiefs of three Range Offices in Kathmandu Valley, one Superintendent of Police from Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Commissioner´s Office, Ranipokhari and a Deputy Superintendent level police officer.



An unidentified armed assailant had shot at Basnet near his residence at Koteshwar Mahadevsthan temple on Monday evening. He has received bullet injuries on his left leg. Doctors at B & B Hospital have successfully carried out operation of his leg to take out the bullets. His condition is stable.



Meanwhile, police have released 12 of the 14 people arrested in suspicion of their involvement in the shooting incident.



According to Superintendent of Police Nawa Raj Silwal, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, they were released after necessary investigation.



SP Silwal said they are still working to find clue about the assailants involved. "We have got some information about them," he said. "We hope to book them soon."
