Special Court grants bail to Niroula

KATHMANDU, April 4: The Special Court has granted bail to Subas Niroula, the former acting chief executive officer of Nepal Tourism Board, in corruption case filled by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority.

A bench of judges Bhupendra Prasad Rai and Narendra Kumar Shiwakoti on Monday asked Niroula to furnish bail amount of Rs 30 million as he appeared in the court one year after the CIAA filed the corruption case. According to the Special Court Registrar Bhadrakali Pokharel, Niroula submitted a bank guarantee equivalent to the bail amount to get released.The CIAA had filed the corruption case against Niroula and 51 others on April 3 last year for allegedly embezzling Rs 790 million while at the board. Niroula had been avoiding the court's order to appear in person to record his statement on the corruption case.

The CIAA has accused Niroula of embezzling Rs 330 million in procurements during his tenure as the NTB chief.
