KATHMANDU, Oct 15: As many as 10 writ petitions have been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) challenging the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR). The petitions contend that every step—from the appointment of the Prime Minister Sushila Karki to the dissolution of HoR—was unconstitutional.
The petitioners argue that Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s appointment was made without citing the relevant constitutional provision, that it was made outside the three categories of individuals eligible under Article 76 of the Constitution, and that a person who had already served as chief justice was unconstitutionally appointed despite constitutional prohibitions. They have also requested an interim order to have the President’s decision rectified immediately.

SC Spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala said that none of the ten petitions have been officially registered yet. He added that the court is currently reviewing the petitions and will register them if deemed appropriate.
President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Karki as interim prime minister following the Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9.
