Three held while selling Buddha statue

CHITWAN, July 26: Three persons have been arrested while trying to sell a statue of Buddha in Bharatpur, Chitwan.



The accused were held near Maya Devi Kanya College while trying to sell the statue for 10 million rupees. [break]



Bom Bahadur Bumbu (40) of Palpa- 3, Bishnu Pariyar (26) and Aite Ram Sunar (29) of Mukundapur, Nawalparasi were arrested with the statue weighing approximately 9.5 kg. Their accomplice Chun Bahadur Ale of Butwal, however, managed to escape.



A saw and pliers were also seized along with the statue. “We are investigating where the statue came from and if it is actually made of gold,” said Rabindra Sharma, police chief of Chitwan.
