KATHMANDU, April 1: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has started operating 18 hours daily from today.
To expand the TIA, authorities closed it for 10 hours daily from November 8 to March 31 over a five-month period to carry out infrastructure construction for capacity enhancement. Starting today, the TIA will operate from 6:00 am to 12:00 am, according to General Manager Jagannath Niraula.
TIA to remain closed for 10 hours a day starting today

He stated that the construction of the link taxiway connecting the taxiway to the runway has been completed, while work on the parallel taxiway is still underway. The Air Traffic Capacity Enhancement Project, under the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, is expanding the airport, including building a parallel taxiway to the southwest, an international apron to the north, and a hangar apron to the east.
The project is expected to cost around Rs 15 billion. Project Chief Dipendra Shrestha reported that 90 percent of the work has been completed so far. Although most of the physical infrastructure work, which must be done at night, is nearly finished, the project is expected to take approximately one and a half more years to complete.
