KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has urged travelers to take precautions from possible risks that could arise with the heavy rainfall that Nepal will be receiving for the next few days.
Issuing a travel advisory on Wednesday, the DoT has cautioned domestic as well as foreign visitors at tourist destinations in light of weather forecasts predicting heavy rainfall across Nepal this week. The DoT issued a public notice to alert mountaineers, trekkers, and support staff—whether already in the mountains or currently en route for the autumn season—to remain vigilant.

According to the weather bulletin, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is expected across the country from Friday, September 25 to Sunday, September 27. Conditions are likely to increase the risk of soil erosion, floods, and landslides, while snowfall is also forecast for mountainous regions.
The DoT issued this advance notice acknowledging the potential impact on trekking and mountaineering activities. It has requested individuals to avoid travel during this period if possible. “If travel is unavoidable, it should be undertaken safely and with due caution.”
The government body has also advised people to plan their future activities while taking the weather forecast into account. Furthermore, it has called upon health facilities in areas where trekking and mountaineering permits have been issued—such as Samagaun (Gorkha), the Khumbu region, and Manang—as well as medical institutions in Kathmandu and Pokhara specializing in high-altitude health issues, to ensure the uninterrupted and smooth delivery of services.
