Transporters stage protest in Jhapa

JHAPA, Sept 14: Transport workers staged chakkajam on Lakhanpur stretch along East-West Highway Tuesday to protest the attack on their colleagues.



They halted vehicular movement by placing vehicles on the road after bus driver Lakpa Sherpa and its owner Dambar Lamichhane of Mechinagar-10 in Jhapa were manhandled by unidentified people. They were attacked on the way to West from Kakadvitta on the bus (Me 1 Kha 995).[break]



Transport workers said traffic will not be allowed to resume on the highway until the accused people are booked. Area Police Office, Damak, said security personnel are searching the accused people.



Landslide obstructs Bhimdutta highway



DADELDHURA, Sept 14: Traffic on landslide-hit Bhimdutta Highway has not resumed yet.



The highway has been remained obstructed since yesterday afternoon following a landslide at Chaurannabbe.



With the disruption of the road that is lifeline of seven remote districts of the Far-Western Region, hundreds of passengers and vehicles have been stranded.



District Administration Office, Dadeldhura, said a bulldozer has been pressed into service to clear the landslide debris from road. However, continuous rainfall has been hampering efforts.
