KATHMANDU, June 16: Concern was raised in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Tuesday over a reported violent attack on Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Shailesh Singh in Dhangadhi, Kailali.

Speaking in the HoR session, CPN-UML lawmaker Ain Bahadur Mahar drew the government’s attention to the incident, saying Singh was attacked by a group of 7–8 individuals on the night of June 15 while returning home after attending the Sudurpaschim Province convention.

Singh, who had contested the HoR by-election from Bajhang held on March 5 as an RSP candidate, was allegedly subjected to a planned assault.

Mahar said the attackers also looted valuables, including a laptop, watch, mobile phone, and a chain from Singh.

“The attack on a responsible leader of the RSP, despite the party being in government, clearly shows that lawlessness and disorder are increasing in the country,” he said in Parliament.

He also wished Singh a speedy recovery and urged the Home Ministry to bring those involved in the attack to justice without delay.

On the same occasion, Mahar also raised the case of Deepak Dhami from Bajhang, who had gone to Japan a year ago and recently died there.

He urged the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate the repatriation of the body, citing the family’s extremely weak financial condition.
