Veteran journalist Bhairab Risal passed away on Sunday night while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kathmandu. He was 97.

KATHMANDU, April 7: Veteran journalist Bhairab Risal passed away on Sunday night while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kathmandu. He was 97.


Risal was admitted to Frontline Hospital in Baneshwor on Sunday afternoon and died around 7:45 PM, according to family sources.

Known for his decades-long career in journalism, Risal had been active since the Panchayat era. He served for many years at the national news agency Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), retiring as a chief correspondent.


After retirement, he remained engaged in environmental journalism and was a prominent voice on Radio Sagarmatha. He was associated with the station from its early days and was well-known for his long-running segment Radio Kurakani and the program Uhiley Bajeyka Palama.


Risal had pledged to donate his body for medical study to the Patan Academy of Health Sciences.
