The warning comes after the announcement that the gates of the Dhauliganga Hydropower Project dam, located in India, will be opened from midnight on Friday until 12 PM on Saturday. The DHM has stated that this could lead to a significant rise in the water level of the Mahakali River and has advised people in the river's lower riverine areas to exercise caution through Sunday morning.

Similarly, the Dhauliganga Power Station, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), has also issued a notice confirming the planned opening of the dam gates starting Friday. The NHPC said the decision was made due to excessive water in the reservoir, requiring emergency release and maintenance operations.
