MAHENDRANAGAR: Construction work at Chameliya Hydel Project remains stalled for fifth consecutive day on Tuesday. The standoff between Nepali and Chinese workers has caused obstruction in the construction work of the project since last Friday.

The Chinese and Nepali workers engaged in verbal altercation over the issue of operating a generator. The Chinese workers have charged that the security personnel, stationed for the security of the project, did not to cooperate with them. However, Chief District Officer Yagyaraj Bohara said his office has made a written commitment to provide security for Chinese workers.

Construction work of the 30-MW Chameliya Hydel Project at Shikhar VDC in Darchula district had begun two years ago. The Chinese firm Gejuwa is the contractor of the project. Over 100 Chinese workers are working on the project.
