Bigwigs renew commitment for statute within mid-August

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Top-notch leaders of four major parties on Monday renewed commitments to promulgate the new constitution with delineation of provinces within mid-August.

After a meeting in Singha Durbar, leaders said the new statue defining boundaries of provinces will be issued based on the 16-point deal.


Emerging from the meet, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said parties will forge agreement possibly by today.

“An accord will be reached probably today. If not possible, agreement will be forged by tomorrow evening,” he said, “New constitution will be enacted within mid-August.”

Chairman of Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC) Baburam Bhattarai said they are attempting hard to forge agreement.
 
“We are working day and night. One should not charge us for failing to meet deadline,” Bhattarai said, “Attempts are made to reach agreement scanning thousands of feedbacks.”

General Secretary of Madheshi People’s Rights Forum (Democratic) Jitendra Dev said constitution will be promulgated as per the 16-point deal.

“Constitution will be issued within Mid-August incorporating people’s desire,” he said.

At the meeting, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress (NC) leaders Ram Chandra Paudel and Krishna Prasad Situla, MPRF-D Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachhadar were also present.

The meeting will convene again at 1 pm.
