Gurukul, led by national team captain Sadish Pradhan, finished the league with a perfect record as it won all its matches en route to the title. In the final on Saturday, Gurukul took the first quarter 20-18 and extended the lead in the second quarter scoring 23 points against 13 scored by GoldenGate. [break]
GoldenGate bounced back to take the third quarter 21-15. However, Gurukul scored 20 points in the last quarter against GoldenGate´s 15 to win the match with final scores of 78-67.
Ajay Manandhar was the topscorer for Gurukul in the final with 23 points. Sadish Pradhan scored 19 points while Robin Khatri contributed 13 points for the champions.
Bikram Dangol scored 18 points, including four three-pointers, and Sushil Gurung added 15 points for GoldenGate.
Winner Gurukul received Rs 40,000 along with the trophy while runner-up GoldenGate bagged Rs 20,000.
Binod Maharjan of Gurukul was declared the most valuable player. He was awarded Rs 5,000 and Li-Ning basketball shoes.
Sadish Pradhan was the highest scorer of the tournament and received Rs 5,000. Pradhan scored 262 points for Gurukul during the tournament. Ayush Singh of the host Naya Bazaar Club finished as the second highest scorer with 210 points.
Altogether six teams had participated in the tournament played in double-league format initially and the top four teams had advanced into the semifinals.
