Gurukul, Whitehouse lift titles

KATHMANDU, May 5: Gurukul and Whitehouse claimed the boys´ and girls´ titles respectively in the Minsk KCM Basketball Bash 2103 that concluded in the capital on Sunday.



Whitehouse, which had reached the final in both categories, had to settle for the runner-up spot in boys´ category after going down to Gurukul 56-44 in the final. The six-point lead taken in the first quarter and the five-point lead in the last quarter laid the foundation for Gurukul´s victory.[break]



After taking the first quarter 16-10, Gurukul narrowly went down 14-15 in the second before recovering to take a slender 15-13 lead in the third and sealed the victory with a last quarter score of 11-6. Sadish Pradhan contributed the highest 15 points for Gurukul while Binod Maharjan netted 14 points. Bijay Khatri was the highest scorer for Whitehouse with 14 points while Sanjay Byanjankar netted 11 points.



In the women´s final, Whitehouse defeated Prime 27-19 riding on 15 points from Bina Nakarmi. Anushal Malla also contributed five points for the winning team. Whitehouse took the first and third quarters 5-1 and 12-5 respectively, while the second quarter ended at 7-7. Prime took the third quarter 6-3.



The tournament sponsored by Minsk Water was organized by Kathmandu College of Management, Gwarko.
