Academically Ale is an undergraduate in Bachelors of Arts with a major in sociology. However, he decided to pursue his childhood passion for art and illustration as his career. When it comes to graphic designing and illustration, Ale is self-taught. We talk to him about his current work and about this field of work in general.
What do you mainly do at Ad Media?
My job is to mainly illustrate advertisement concepts. Apart from that, graphic designing.
What does one need to keep in mind as a designer and illustrator?
One has to be creative; this is the most important quality. Apart from that, one also needs patience because sometimes, illustrations and designs don’t turn out the way you expect it to, at one go. You need to keep creating and working on it until you or your client is satisfied with it.
Why do you prefer this career choice for yourself?
Firstly, this is something that is similar to what I like doing from my early childhood days. I’ve always been into art and illustration from a very young age. Apart from that, this job has a lot of scope in Nepal because there are only a handful of fine designers and illustrations. The pay in this profession is good.
What is your own designing style and who are you designing and illustrating inspirations?
I prefer simple and clean designs. However, clients here still prefer gaudy designs and sometimes, I have to compromise on my creativity and go ahead with concepts that I don’t personally like.
I like to refer to international designers, no one in particular. In case of illustrations, I look up to Rajesh KC, his work is simple yet very expressive.
You long term plans?
I want to focus on illustrations. Also, like I said before, in Nepal there aren’t many creative illustrators. I will strive to become one.
