Mosque blast victim named martyr

KATHMANDU, Jan 20: The government has declared Khursid Alam, one of the victims of March 2008 Biratnagar mosque blast as the country’s third religious martyr, according to a senior government official.



Altogether three people were killed in the blast, which was owned up by a little-known group called Nepal Defense Army. The government has already declared two other victims of the blast -- Parvej Alam and Phiroj Khan – as religious martyrs.



Parvej and Phiroj had died on the spot in the blast at the mosque at Sarauchiya, Biratnagar while Khan died after a few months in the course of treatment at B P Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan last year.
