KATHMANDU, Dec 10: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is increasing load-shedding duration to 28 hours a week with effect from Friday.

Currently, the NEA is cutting power supply for 12 hours a week.

The NEA will publish the new schedule on Friday, said Sher Singh Bhat, director, system operation, NEA.

The electricity consumers bear the brunt of acute power shortage every winter as electricity demand rises in the dry season while hydropower projects generate less electricity during the dry season.

The projects produce half their installed capacity as all the hydro-projects-- except Kulekhani -- are built on run-of-the river model.
