New budget will be pro-private sector: FM

KATHMANDU, April 11: Finance Minister Shankar Koirala said Thursday the government is preparing to bring a new fiscal budget that would totally favor the private sector.



Stating that the government has faith in the private sector’s ability to give an impetus to the country’s overall development activities, Koirala said, “The preparations are going on to bring new budget. The budget will be brought with incentives for the private sector.” [break]



The finance minister said the government is committed to implementing the recently brought budget with a temporary provision. He however said the government is working to bring the country’s economy back on track and, for that, works have already been begun from this budget itself.



He blamed the sluggish economic growth on the existing energy crisis and stated that a new program has been introduced to develop the energy sector. He also said priorities in the new budget will be placed on the development of hydropower, highways of strategic importance, and irrigation.



Koirala said the government wants to accomplish its task and hand over the leadership to the political parties as early as possible He further said that the government has already made it clear that the new elections are not possible by June.
