With the title win, New Diamond also avenged the defeat to Nepal Police Club in the final of the First Invitational Women´s Volleyball Tournament held in Dharan last month.
New Diamond defeated Western Region Volleyball Training Center, Pokhara on Friday to earn full three points and lift the title.
Western Region won the first set of the match 25-23 but the young girls of New Diamond bounced back to win three sets in a row. New Diamond claimed the second, third and fourth sets with the scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 27-25 respectively.
"The club was in trouble when five players left the club at the same time five months ago. There was no one left in the team except Ramila (Tandukar). I then started teaching volleyball to the new and young talents. What we achieved today is the result of these girls´ hard work," said coach Kumar Rai.
Rai praised most of the team members for their performances during the tournament. "Quicker Lalita Nath and Manisha Tamang were brilliant throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, Pratibha (Mali) helped Ramila (Tandukar) for open spikes. Kripa Adhikari was also equally brilliant as a lifter," said Rai.
"We have played many times against the departmental teams and Western Region. Though we had beaten some of them a couple of times, we had never beaten Nepal Police in the past. After defeating Police, our morale was high," said New Diamond captain Tandukar.
New Diamond has eight points from three matches while Nepal APF Club has four points from two matches. APF, which will take on Nepal Police Club in its last match on Saturday, will finish second irrespective of the outcome of Saturday´s match.
New Diamond will bag Rs 150,000 as the champion while runner-up APF will get Rs 75,000.
