KATHMANDU, Nov 14: The government is likely unwilling to arrest State Minister Karima Begum even after the lodging of a public offence case against her for allegedly slapping Chief District Officer of Parsa, Durga Prasad Bhandari. [break]

CDO Bhandari´s bodyguard on Wednesday filed the case at District Police Office, Parsa, which immediately issued an arrest warrant against Begum and corresponded with police headquarters for extending it to the capital.

Though police headquarters claims that the warrant has been circulated to all districts where ´Begum is possibly to be found´, the three Police Range Offices of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur have not received any such document as of Friday evening.

"We think this is all propaganda. We can nab her within an hour if the government orders us to do so by whatever means," said a police officer at Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, the Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic) could not resume discussions in connection with the case Friday as its ministers remained locked inside Singha Durbar due to the Maoist protests. A parliamentary party meeting on Thursday is said to have reached a tentative agreement to form a three-member probe to be led by central committee member Rameshwar Raya.
