Of the total 16 programs in the new calendar, NVA will organize seven events while four will be conducted by regional and district-level bodies. Similarly, the volleyball governing body has also included five tournaments to be hosted by clubs or other groups in its annual calendar.[break]
Unveiling the NVA´s programs at a press conference in the capital on Sunday, NVA General Secretary Jeetendra Bahadur Chand said the annual calendar includes 13 competitive tournaments, a coaches refresher course, a referee refresher course and a youth volleyball festival.
Though NVA is also planning to host a South Asian volleyball tournament during the year, the event has not been included in the calendar as a final decision is yet to be made.
"We are planning to host a men´s South Asian tournament in the near future," said NVA President Dan Bahadur Tamang. "A final decision in this regard will be taken soon. National Sports Council has said that it has allocated Rs 2 million for the tournament. And the budget will be frozen if we do not organize it."
"We do not want the amount to be frozen. But the budget allocated by NSC will not be sufficient to host the tournament. We need a budget of at least Rs 4 million and if we get support from all sectors we will organize the tournament," added General Secretary Chand.
Nakkhipot Junior Men´s Volleyball (Lalitpur), Nationwide Open Men´s Volleyball (Jhapa), Dhorpatan Cup (Kathmandu), Workers Cup (Bhaktapur) and Chaite Dashain Cup (Baglung) are the tournaments included by NVA in its calendar to be hosted by non-volleyball bodies.
"We have included some major programs of clubs as well in our calendar and NVA will provide them logistic support to organize any kind of tournament throughout the country," stated Tamang, adding that NVA was also looking forward to long-term partnership with corporate houses. He also informed that NVA is planning to set up its own volleyball complex.
NVA will organize the National Women´s and Men´s Beach Volleyball Tournament, the first event of the new calendar, in mid-June while the Men´s and Women´s Club League Volleyball to be held in mid-March, 2014 will conclude the calendar. The Men´s and Women´s National Club Championship and the Men´s and Women´s National Tournament are other tournaments of NVA.
