KATHMANDU, April 20: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) Wednesday challenging the government’s selection of ambassadorial nominees to 21 countries.
Writ petition filed against Rabi Lamichhane
The petitioner has demanded a halt to the nomination process claiming that the selection was not inclusive and contravenes the constitution.
Article 282 of the new constitution states that the president shall appoint ambassadors and other emissaries for specified purposes based on the principle of inclusion. The cabinet on Tuesday proposed 21 nominees for ambassadors. But their appointment, to be approved by parliamentary hearings, is likely to get delayed because the parliament has failed to conduct any hearings in lack of parliamentary regulations.
Appointment of nominees at several constitutional bodies and the Supreme Court has languished for months in lack of parliamentary hearings.
