KATHMANDU, May 26: Egg prices have continued to rise weekly, with the Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association increasing prices by Rs 15 per crate effective from Tuesday.
Under the revised rates, XL eggs now cost Rs 545 per crate. The association has fixed prices of large eggs at Rs 530 per crate, medium eggs at Rs 500 and small eggs at Rs 400.
Egg price increased, still short of production cost
Just last week, the association had raised prices to Rs 530 for XL eggs, Rs 515 for large eggs, Rs 485 for medium eggs and Rs 385 for small eggs per crate.
The association said prices have increased due to lower production and rising market demand.
More than 500,000 layer chickens died in Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts because of bird flu, while layer chickens were also culled in several other districts, according to the association.
